    The Large Hadron Collider

LHC - The aim of the exercise:
To smash protons moving at 99.999999% of the speed of light into each other
and so recreate conditions a fraction of a second aftyer the big bang.
The LHC experiments try and work out what happened.

Wow, thanks a bunch for these links.

Before, I've just been scouring google news on LHC's latest developments and never seem to be satisfied with the information.

News articles are retarded because nobody does investigative journalism and it's always dumbed down and sensationalized. But that's something I could go on forever about.

    Thanks again

Thank you, it sure is useful.

    The latest update:

Geneva — Operators of the world's largest atom smasher say they have ramped up the machine to three times the energy ever achieved in a run up to experiments probing secrets of the universe.

The European Organization for Nuclear Research, or CERN, says beams of protons circulated Friday at 3.5 trillion electron volts in both directions around the 27-kilometre tunnel housing the Large Hadron Collider under the Swiss-French border at Geneva.
The next major development is expected in several days when CERN starts colliding the beams in a new round of research to examine the tiniest particles and forces within the atom in hopes of finding out more about how matter is made up.

The collider will run at 7 TeV through next year, before being shut down in 2012 to upgrade to full design energy of 14 TeV. It will then restart in 2013, with a long-term goal of revealing the Higgs boson, or “God particle,” so named because scientists believe it gives mass to other matter.
“The Higgs particle is not easy to find,” Mr. Heuer said. “We know everything about the Higgs particle, except if it exists.”
