This is a discussion on godless religion in Holland within the Religion forums, part of the Atheism category; this is great BBC News - Dutch rethink Christianity for a doubtful world...

" Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able? Then he is not omnipotent. Is he able, but not willing? Then he is malevolent. Is he both able and willing? Then whence cometh evil? Is he neither able nor willing? Then why call him God? "

I agree that it seems like a step in the right (rational) direction but they stop short of coming to a logical conclusion. If you don't believe there is a heaven or hell, if you question the existence of Jesus or his godliness, etc. then what do you need religion for?
This equates to Madison Avenue manipulation - never mind the quality, safety or efficacy of the product, just develop a marketing plan that will sell it. All the discussions about spirituality or "taking God out of the box" are analogous to arguing about whether Clark Kent prefers boxers or briefs or debating why Pluto and Goofy are both dogs yet Pluto can't talk while Goofy can.Christian churches are in a market situation. They can offer their ideas to a majority of the population which is interested in spirituality or some kind of religion.

well there are differing opinions on the state of religion in Europe, some studies say it is declining rapidly and others say it is stable.
In N-Am we seem to have a god problem compared to Europe. Can you imagine if a protestant collar in the US started this, man he would ex-communicated in an instant.
