Default How Canada's Christian Right was built

In conjunction with Chris his earlier posting today concerning an anti-abortion protest on parliament hill - as reported by thestar.com - I had bookmarked another article from last week: 'How Canada's Christian right was build' - also as reported by thestar.com (May 7, 2010).

Can someone please explain what kind of paper thestar.com is?

    For the article:
How Canada’s Christian right was built - thestar.com
Alone with Christ, desolate else, left by mankind.

That's a good question, it used to be a newspaper that catered to the left side of the bench... however, reading many comments on thestar.com, it seems like a lot of readers are right wing - or perhaps the few right wing readers are the most vocal in the comment section.

I did watch the CBC coverage and admit to being disappointed - it was one sided and made a lot of accusations without providing any real evidence. It seems to be a great way for someone to sell a book by getting us all excited by using the term: `Christian Right`and trying to make a link to the USA. I hope the book is better than this coverage was.

If these "Christians" would follow their supposed leader, Jesus, and pay attention to their Bibles they'd quit trying to set up a Christian nation. What part of "my kingdom is not of this world" don't those idiots understand? They think they're getting an eternity to live under a theocracy (i.e. Heaven) and yet they want to deny the rest of us heathens our few thousand years of power. Talk about greedy! (Isn't greed a sin anymore?)

I hate to say this but I think what was said on the CBC clip is common knowledge to some of us here. For me, the video more or less helped to connect the dots to understand the bigger picture... although I kind of already knew this was happening. Everything said in the clip is true, you can check the facts.

Some of the video clips shown are actually events I have participated in when I was in my early teens. There are these mega-youth conventions that take place each year and one of the underlying messages is to 'help bring Canada back to god'. These groups are totally geared towards going out and converting people and encouraging christians to get involved in politics.

Some of these ass holes are also actively engaging students in the public school systems, for example a group called "Campus Fire" teaches students to go into their public schools and actively promote the word of 'god'. http://www.campusfire.com/

I think many of us should be worried because the threat of these lunatics is very real. They are deluded by their false doctrine and as a consequence, not only are they a danger to free thought and reason - they are also a danger to human rights, gender rights, reproductive rights, as well as gay rights. It wasn't too long ago that Stockwell Day ran for prime minister, can you imagine if he won? :\.
