Default Harper government says no to abortion!

The Stephan Harper government really pisses me off. It's proven fact that when abortions are not legalized and when there are no safe means of carrying out an abortion, people will seek alternative support from unregulated and unauthorized abortion clinics. As a consequence, many women are put at serious risk of fatal injury when the procedure isn't carried out correctly. It is similar to the war on drugs... when you ban something there is an underground market that comes as a result. No matter what, people will do it. Thus we should try to ensure when it is done, it is performed safely.

The Harper government should be supporting foreign abortion clinics, if not for a woman's right to her own body, then for their own safety at least. No doubt there are many women that would rather chance sticking a coat hanger between their legs instead of having another child.

Agreed, this is disgraceful and an international stain on Canada's reputation.

Anyone who does not support a woman's right to choose should be required to support any child she has because she is not able to obtain a safe and legal abortion.

This is kind of amusing. This sort of fluff is like the harper government stating they don't support alien encounters...who the hell cares?

    It's their purogative.

90% of foreign aid granted to women with respect to child abortion is and has always been done through charity organizations.

Charities like CARE Canada, Plan Canada, RESULTS Canada, Save the Children Canada, UNICEF Canada and World Vision Canada.

I find it kind of funny that Harper's government even bothers to throw their hat in the discussion anywhere(Esp considering his history of choking media attention on similar discussions) but I understand deciding against backing the effort with public funding from a political standpoint.

Fuck the bleeding hearts. We're already digging our own graves just trying to provide adequate housing and health care for our own citizens.

If you give a shit about these people, stop bitching about the government that is looking out for your interests and get involved in groups that are helping them.

This is a self help system here people. Get off the god damn side lines.

Assuming that the government is actually looking out for our interests, it is every citizen's duty to "bitch" about what the government is doing if it appears the government is not acting in accordance with the rights and freedoms guaranteed in their Charter of Rights and Freedoms.
One can and does bitch AND get involved with groups helping the disadvantaged. We clever folk can multi-task after all.

It's the principle of the matter, one which the conservatives have been very hypocritical about. They are essentially saying that the Canadian government supports safe abortions in our country but not the rest of the world. Good enough for us, but not the rest of the world. The conservatives are pushing their ideological viewpoints rather than thinking about the safety of women.

Seventy thousand woman die each year world wide from unsafe abortions. It's extremely hypocritical for the Conservative government to say yes here but no around the globe... talk about a double standard.

However, this is just part of the bigger picture - since the Conservatives have formed government, womens rights groups have gone down the toilet. As Elizabeth May, Leader of the Green party has said, the Conservative government funds band-aid solutions to gender inequalities and social issues rather than funding research and groups that seek to resolve the primary cause in the first place.

A friend of mine posted this on her FB wall, I'm waiting for her to give me the source but just have a glance at what she posted. If it is true (which I think it is) then it is shocking... however the the list is a lot longer and this is just the tip of the iceberg:
