Default church/ state separation Canada vs US

I just attended the prom for my favorite daughters gr12 graduation,
with all that is in the news, not once during either the cap and gown ceremony or the actual prom
was there any mention of god (except the national anthem). There were no prayers in any
    speech.
I donated money to the poor Damon Fowler kid in the baptist south, he had to leave town and family.
Now with all the kerfuffle in the states about this, why do we not have this problem?
In the US they have government rights clearly stated in their laws, but still there are battles,
here in Canada, we have no laws separating church and state but we seem to be able to do without the laws.

Are we in for a surprise or are we just are not as religious?

It might be a function of where you are. Here in Ontario, we've got government-funded Catholic schools, and a number of town councils still open their meetings with the Lord's Prayer.

Also, I'm worriedly watching what the Conservatives are going to do abroad, such as that promised "Office of Religious Freedom", which may end up being an exercise in promoting evangelism. I'm also worried about what I'm hearing about how they're de-funding programs that have an abortion component.

Overall, I don't think things are as bad here as they are in the US, but they do fall short in some major ways, IMO.

We have an elementary and secondary zombie school, but the only remaining ones are in Whitehorse. \
In the 80's there were more in some of the small communities. The non-public ones are all gone as well.
I'm sure "christ the king High School's" grad was catholosised.
I wonder if Canada's bible belt school's have prayers?

Alberta? No. Not in the public schools anyways. In certain parts of Calgary it'd be the Koran that was read out of so I can't see anyone wanting to try and risk that happening by suggesting prayer. That said, we do have Catholic schools and god only knows what they say in between molestations.
Faith, n. Belief without evidence in what is told by one who speaks without knowledge, of things without parallel.
Religion, n. A daughter of hope and fear, explaining to ignorance the nature of the unknowable.
Philosophy, n. A route of many roads leading from nowhere to nothing.
