    Default My introduction

I just read some other posts in this subforum and noticed the presence of trolling, which kind of saddens me, but ey.

    So here's my introduction:

I'm Belgian and raised Catholic, but in absence of strong religious beliefs. Our family never went to church or even practiced religion. I know my mother is somewhat religious. We (4 sisters, 1 brother) have never really experienced exposure to what our parents believe in.

Throughout my youth, I've always been the silent, introverted one. I have the tendency to absorb and think about information more than I would make judgments. In recent years, I've come to develop my core beliefs. What led to my atheist... choice, is strongly related to the notion of knowledge is power. Putting blind faith never brought me anywhere, it was the effort of investigation, analyzing and understanding concepts, problems that had a profound impact in my life. In high school I wasn't the model student and I even finished in a mathematical low intensity direction (only 3 hours a week).

Then, upon entering university, I was... the underdog. I chose engineering and was predicted to fail. I did had to endure a big loss in the first year, but it was also a period in which I grew. I've evolved from a simple but motivated person, to someone that could easily take up leader roles and solve problems better than most other students. I've had 2 Phd requests, but unsure I want to take them, my motivation lies elsewhere. I have the tendency to flourish when expectations of me are low and I experience much resistance. I feel bored and ill-motivated when otherwise. I also have my darker sides, since nobody is perfect. I embrace the visions of Nietzsche in accepting failure.

I have an interest in math and computers, my hobbies include Linux, sport, video games occasionally, and I'm fond of movies (especially British comedy). My music choice is hard to describe, but the Prodigy, Radiohead, David Bowie, Misfits, Underworld, Sex Pistols, Electric Six, Nirvana is a good summary. Though I can be a practical person, abstract reasoning is my addiction. I'm interested in debating and sharpening up skills and knowledge.

So as a summary, I'm an atheist for three reasons (chronologically):
    - never bothered about religion, it did not aid me
    - convinced about evolution, its implication on religious manuscripts, the importance of scientific knowledge
    - the shear ignorance that can be witnessed by debating creationists (I'm rather active on YT, it isn't pretty)

I don't hold any expectations on these forums, but I like to get in touch with more other atheists. Lastly, it's a bit late and I've been busy today, so I have that 'hurting brain' syndrome.
