So, while browsing something or other I came across the very first atheist "group" that was established in the US. I looked further, and their head quarters are in Portland, which is conveniently where I'm from. They have meetings every tuesday nights, and last night I went to one for the first time with my mom. It was so great, there were probably 15 people in attendance, mostly older men in their 70s or so, it was fairly unorganized but pretty funny. These old, witty, cynical and completely hilarious old men just repeatedly bashing religion in a way that Hitchens himself would have bowed to. Anyway, normally they have speakers that come in and talk for a bit. Next week there going to be having one on homeopathy (and it's ridiculousness), so I'm fairly excited. Do you guys have anything similar where you are from? And if any of you happen to ever be in Portland, you've gotta go- it's great.
