I don't really have any goal with my argument. It was just an idea that popped into my head the other day. Some interesting food for thought if you will.
I have been talking religious people out of their misguided beliefs for years now. I guess, I just got bored and wanted to argue with someone who has a higher level of intelligence and who value reason over delusion. At the end it all comes down to word play. That is the realm of philosophers. I am getting way to philosophical and will leave the paradox where it lies for now, and get back to planet earth.
Thanks for your answers and opinions.
    Kind Regards

I recently read on a website, a christian describing the variety of and degrees of belief.
One person described his belief as just that. He thought the bible was a work of fiction,
but with meaning, and he equated his faith existing to just the thought of a god.
He almost used the same argument, the electrical impulses in the brain are the only real
part, (wait for it), because god lives IN all of us, and in how we live our lives, bla bla bla.

I ve looked in my history but just cannot find that discussion, I believe it was on the thinkatheist site.

    I like this though http://godisimaginary.com/i43.htm

God has been real for thousands of years and I have only been somewhat real for the last 27.
More people believe in the existence of God, than people who believe or know about my existence.
God also affects more people's lives than I do.
Thus God is much more real than I am.
(Almost all the same arguments could be made for Santa, Elvis and countless others.)
The idea that God is real - coming from an atheist does seem rather absurd. Regardless, I feel like indulging in this pointlessness anyway.

Santa and Elvis --- Worst analogy I've ever heard.

The argument does not apply to Santa Clause for several reasons. People do not worship Santa Clause. People do not build Cathedrals in Santa Clause's name. Every nation has had some sort of god - most do not have a Santa Clause. I've never heard anyone older than the age of 10 make a claim that Santa Clause is real, and I'm quite sure I've never heard of anyone who killed anyone else in the name of Santa Clause.

The argument in turn does not apply to Elvis Presley for an even more obvious reason. Elvis actually existed. He lived and died and his life is pretty damn well documented.
Since your claim states that God is real only because we've allowed him to shape humanity's historical path, but not because he did ACTUALLY exist -- this cannot be said of Elvis. The man was clearly not a creation of the mind. He was irrefutably - real.

Furthermore, I would say that your claim of "countless others" does not exist either. Mother Goose, the Tooth Fairy, Superman, the Easter Bunny - all of these would make terrible analogies for your point. I'm not aware of any fictional character, literary or otherwise, that has had a FRACTION of the influence on mankind that God and/or the idea of God has had on the whole of humanity.

I like it. Its sort of BaudrIllaed ish with the desert of the real sort of thing.
Everything you said was true. So your Argument is true. It all depends on your definition of real.

Edited note - I tend to separate material and real.

I don't think religion saved anyone, it may have created some good, organization etc,.
There is no religion can save anyone but your belief can save you your self.
