I think there is some serious misunderstanding about the difference between 'God' and 'little green men who created man'. I would hope that I do not need to offer you a definition of 'God' but it seems that I do: God= the supernatural being conceived as the perfect and omnipotent and omniscient originator and ruler of the universe.

There is a HUGE difference between claiming that the said 'God' created the universe, and saying that 'little green men' who EVOLVED to become so scientifically advanced that they were able to seed the world and 'create' man. The difference comes in the concepts of the two beings. God is omnipotent and omniscient and always was (at least according to the religions I'm familiar with). Aliens are physical beings, like you or I, who simply have the knowledge and have evolved the ability to create another set of beings. Dawkins' aliens don't claim to be all-powerful and all-knowing and ever-existing. Dawkins' idea (and I stress that is it simply a fleeting idea and not that he really believes that little green men created life on this earth) has scientific grounds. The 'God' concept, however, has NO scientific grounds.

Also, when asked about why Dawkins refuses to enter into debates with these creationists he stated that it was because he does not want to give them and their beliefs any credence. He compared it to a geologist, who knows and has all the scientific proof that the earth is round, entering into a debate with a geologist who believes, even without evidence, that the earth is flat. Pseudoscientists like the ones who want to debate with Dawkins do not need nor deserve any recognition, especially from an esteemed scientist like Richard Dawkins.

The ONLY way I would EVER agree to debate a Creationist would be in an online forum with no unreasonable time constraints placed on my responses. Creationists almost NEVER agree to such debates because they all favor the Duane Gish/Kent Hovind tactic of using their allotted 10-15 minutes(as in a traditional, live debate forum) spouting hundreds of claims, each of which would require more than ten minutes to scientifically explain and debunk. So the science-advocate is forced to quickly answer the point(or two if he is very good) and ignore the rest. That is when the Creationist then stands up and says "Look at all those points he did not address! i rest my case in Jesus' name... AMEN!".

Every time I wade into one of these online debates I always ask the Creationists(or the Conspiracy theorists or the homeopaths, etc.) to try and present their very strongest 3-5 pieces of evidence/argumentative points. The points that, if I can debunk those, they will agree they have no case.

In over a decade of internet debates I have yet to see a Creationist(or a Conspiracy theorist or a homeopath) take me up on that offer.
