This is really cool. It might be that we're not as close to other primates as originally thought.

This is a wonderful and important specimen but it is being overhyped by the media (and a few others). Any time you hear talk about a "missing link" be very cautious. Evolutionary scientists and biologists don't use that term at all.
Here's some more info about Darwinius masillae from Brian Switek over at Laelaps:

Sorry that's not a link. You'll have to copy/paste the URL I guess.

Hey, wadyaknow. The link did work.
Carl Zimmer also takes a few potshots at the misleading and over-zealous hollywoodization of Ida:

In case you're wondering, that humongous title is a reference to Tom Waits' "Step Right Up", a great little ditty.
Edit: check it...

Blondin,
Thanks for the link to the Discover Magazine blog. Bob MacDonald was on CBC Newsworld yesterday morning explaining the inappropriateness of the term "missing link".
As far as I can determine, the only "missing link" is any link between Creationism and reality.

haha, nice one.
but yes, there was a RSS feed earlier today on this forum about the hype surrounding Darwinius masillae and how the "missing link" thing got totally misconstrued:

there are some insightful comments about it too.
