What are everybody's thoughts on an ancient "giant" race of people?
I call bullshit, but my BF insists that there were giants running around.
Thought I'd ask!

How big is giant? 15ft? 150ft? o.O
Faith, n. Belief without evidence in what is told by one who speaks without knowledge, of things without parallel.
Religion, n. A daughter of hope and fear, explaining to ignorance the nature of the unknowable.

I'm guessing it's all a hoax...I can't really find anything on Google that tells me any of the "giant" bone discoveries through the years are authentic. Even with a pituitary problem it's doubtful a man could reach 12-15 ft. in height. We'd all know about it!
I was just wondering if any of you had heard about this.
I'm off to check YouTube.
(obviously, not much of a researcher...LOL!)

well, drunk but attempted a discussion here,
Why believe the bible is the inerrant word of God?
genesis 6 I thunk.
4: There were giants in the earth in those days; and also after that, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bare children to them, the same became mighty men which were of old, men of renown.
hang on , wife saying beliefs, schmeeleefs, get over here. Tia Maria and lots of Yukon gold beer.

Yes, the "nephilim."...But giant races of people seemed to be mentioned a lot...even in the USA and South America.
I'm only asking because I'd never heard of any of this before.
I have heard of Meganthropus before...but they aren't considered human?
I'm coming back to this tomorrow when I am awake. Zzzzzzz.......

The evidence, so far, does not support the stories of giants existing at some time in the past. The tales in the Bible about giants seem to be closely connected with the myths about gods and mortals forming sexual unions that created Herculean off-spring. Just another example of how Biblical writers borrowed from the myths around them to create their brand of religion. From talkorigins.org:
There are a number of clear trends (which were neither continuous nor uniform) from early australopithecines to recent humans: increasing brain size, increasing body size, increasing use of and sophistication in tools, decreasing tooth size, decreasing skeletal robustness.
If anyone can come up with some legitimate peer-reviewed evidence of the existence of bones or fossils of "giants" (of the 10 ft plus variety) I certainly would be interested in seeing it.

I have never seen anything on giants other than as an anomaly. Little people and animals due to isolation on small islands I have seen.
The closest article I have seen was a national geo a while back that discussed why some earlier creatures grew so large, they dwelt into the evolutionary
and perhaps social pressure to go big.
