    Default bumper sticker advice needed

My favorite daughter came home from school (gr12) after using 1 of the family vehicles for a girls weekend in town.
She was almost inconsoleable and flippin' furious at me. Right above her sticker which says I have honour roll students in the family, I placed a "There probably no god, now stop worrying" stickers below that on our new truck.

Well worse than some old bag calling the cops on me for the wrong book, some old bag banged on her window and started screeching at her about hell and damnation, and how this 17 year old chick is responsible for all the ill and evil in the world.

    What can I tell her?

well that sucks, sorry to hear your daughter had to experience that.

I guess that's all you can say really, that you're not exactly sorry for having your beliefs, but you're sorry that your daughter had to go through that. that's the way the world works - there are always going to be stinky assholes, douchebags and dickheads that get in your face and make life miserable, it's just as well your daughter gets first-hand experience with this - the younger the better I say (what doesn't kill you makes you stronger too ).

when I was a teenager, I'd be mortified if people were upset with me, but now that I'm older, I just tell them to piss right off. perhaps your daughter hasn't learned how to fight for herself in this regard, so it's understandable if she's upset, even though it doesn't seem like a big deal in our eyes. kids will always have issues with their parents too, ie. being embarassed by their parents loud opinions and beliefs. it just so happens that you advertised your belief on the family van.

maybe this could be a good opportunity for a family discussion, ie. if the family van is meant to be used communally, maybe it's not a good idea to advertise one's personal beliefs on it, if other family members have issues with it, etc.

at least this way, your daughter will feel that you respect her feelings and are willing to do something constructive to address an issue without you having to compromise your values.

    hope this helps somewhat...

I agree with Meezly. I would tell her it just shows the hypocrisy of some religio-bots. I'm sure they don't object to bumper stickers or billboards saying "Honk if you love Jesus" or "Repent you sinner". But I would also offer to remove them from the car if they are a source of embarrassment.

I'm not really a big fan of bumper stickers anyway but I did see one a while ago that made me laugh. It was on a "boyz" car with lots of custom trim, pounding bass and blue LEDs and it said "My other toy is a vulva". I wondered how many of his friends got it.

This is the part that confuses me, this is a piss and vinegar chick, who usually is cutting and articulate.
She long accepted that one role I relish is to embarass her.

But.... as she said my absolute conviction that forcing religion on kids is abuse has left her with a bit of a vacuum in retorts to screeching old bags.

I told her these are not meant as taunts to jesus fish people, but to let like minded folks know they are not alone.
